In order to ensure public access to the collection, the AIF has digitized its holdings since the beginning, integrating images into a database that is accessible online.
The online database allows users to register for free and browse by a number of different search fields, such as keyword, location, date, photographer, studio, genre, and photographic process. Each image is annotated in detail. Users can select images from the collection to create portfolios for future reference and research. 20,000 images are viewable online.
The Arab Image Foundation has just started an extensive digitization
campaign and is investing all its resources towards this goal. For this
reason the AIF library and research space will be closed this summer
from June 15th and until further notice. During this period we will not
be able to answer image requests.
We thank you for your understanding and look forward to updating you on the progress of this work.
The digitization campaign is made possible thanks to The Violet Jabara Charitable Trust, the Arab Fund for Arts and Culture and the Ford Foundation.
