The Arab Image Foundation (AIF) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the understanding of photography and to the practices of collecting, preserving and sharing images. Established in Beirut in 1997, the Foundation holds a collection of more than 600,000 photographs from the Middle East, North Africa and the Arab Diaspora, dating from the late-nineteenth century through the late-twentieth century, and largely shaped by the research and artistic practices of its members. About the project
The Project Manager will work primarily on the Middle East Photograph Preservation Initiative (MEPPI) project:
The Middle East Photograph Preservation Initiative (MEPPI) is a project led by the Arab Image Foundation, jointly with The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the University of Delaware and the Getty Conservation Institute, since 2009. Role and responsibilities
The Project Manager will work closely with the AIF MEPPI project leader and will report to the AIF Director.
Tasks will include but will not be restricted to:
- Project implementation with a focus on logistics and planning for workshops, events and meetings
- Liaising and coordinating with project partners, project participants and service providers
- Translating announcements and correspondence from English to Arabic (and French)
- Preparation of, and follow up on project budgeting and reporting
- Managing the MEPPI website and the MEPPI collections directory
Candidates should have a degree in business, cultural management, or strong prior experience in project management. Applicants should be meticulous, rigorous, extremely organized and reliable. We are looking for a proactive individual who is able to work autonomously as well as part of a team. Applicants must possess excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and be fluent in English and Arabic –French is a plus. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel is also preferred.
Applicants should have a personal interest in cultural heritage, archiving practices, and/or the history of photography.
Applicants must be eligible to work in Lebanon.
The position is available from 15 September 2016 and is offered on a full-time basis.
