Walid Raad


Walid Raad grew up in Lebanon and has been living and working in the US. Raad holds a PhD in Visual and Cultural Studies from the University of Rochester, and is an Assistant Professor of Media and Cultural Studies at Queens College of the City University of New York (New York, USA). His works include textual analysis, video and photography projects, and concentrate on the Lebanese civil wars, the Arab-Israeli conflicts, and documentary theory and practice. His video works include Up to the South (Salloum/Raad, 60 min., NTSC, 1993), and the recently completed collection of video shorts titled The Dead Weight of a Quarrel Hangs (Raad, 18 min., NTSC, 1996-1998). His photography projects also include The Beirut Archive (an ongoing documentary photography project of post-civil war Beirut.)
